Difference between 1142 and 1042 AP's

Is there any important difference between these 2 Aironet AP series? Can both of them perform band selection? I'm designing a company's wireless network and I'm not sure about choosing 1142's or 1042's

There is no much difference.. the 1040 is just a mini version of 1140 Series... apart from the softwate that its supported on. that is 1040 needs latest software byt 1140 runs on older as well

here is the datasheets as well..

In MIMO.. 1141 is 2X3 but 1040 is 2X2

Hi,

Since these are the new products.. we need 7.0 and above as the WLC code for 1040 APs.. You can check the Cisco 802.11N white papers to get more info on compatibility!!

If its WLC based then all the APs will run the same version.. if its IOS stand alone based then most of the modles are compatible with each other, just that we do not get N speeds

When you say latest software.Do you mean IOS version installed in the device? And, in that scenario, wouldnt it be a problem to have different AP models (There's some legacy Aironet 1131 and 1242 already installed) with different IOS versions all running as LAP's controlled by a WLC4402?

I would like to dig a but furter. Yes, they require different software version on WCS for support. But what is really the difference: 2x3 MIMO versus 2x2 MIMO.

My question is: what is the influence on Wifi quality ?

1) the price difference is quiet significant. So why would i choose a 1140 any more ?

2) increase/decrease in coverage zone and/or performance with 2x2 MIMO vs 2x3 MIMO ?

3) Difference in PoE power requirements ? in specific cases (ie. dual band vs singe band or single/dual transmitter per band) ?

4) If there is no technical difference, why does Cisco still make the 2x3 MIMO and why not convert all to 2x2 MIMO ?

regards,

Geert
