Yes. 802.11n is rated between 300 Mbps to 450 Mbps. Let's say because it's full duplex, true speed is half, so it's 150 and 225 Mbps. How do you plan to shove 150 Mbps traffic down to a 100 Mbps FastEthernet link? You can't. This is why it's recommended you connect an 802.11-capable AP to GigabitEthernet link.

Hi, Like Leo said you really need to uplink your AP to a GigabitEthernet port because you could have a bottleneck on the switch port and you have to use Cat 6 patch cord to ensure the correct speed. Regards.

Just to add, the newer ac standard  is over 1 gig and its wave 2 is expected to exceed 3 gigs now 1 Gig connectivity will also is expected to be case of history soon
