Hello everyone,
The down APs have automatically disappeared from the join statistics of the 9800 WLC and are neither visible nor up in the WLC.
Could you please help explain this behavior? This makes it challenging for us to proactively track historically down APs, as they are not present in the join statistics or anywhere in the WLC while they remain down.

Statistics data requires data base to be held. If you need to hold statistics for long period, you need to have more storage. WLC is not meant to hold data for too long as It does not have storage. It needs to overwrite statistics to make room for newer events.

Hello Flavio,
Thanks for the reply.
But we observed that only not joined APs disappeared from the join statistics of the WLC
Could you confirm if there is a predefined duration on the WLC after which it automatically removes or flushes APs that remains in not joined state?

Cisco Catalyst Centre or Meraki Cloud would be recommendation to add the WLC to and use them to hold that information.

I agree with @Haydn Andrews and @Flavio Miranda, you need to look at something else. If you don't have DNAc, you can always use syslog with filters, but if you are looking to see ap's bouncing, rebooting or just disconnecting over a long period of time, you will need to be able to keep that data in syslog. You can always look at the show ap uptime then look at the associated uptime. That can help you see which ap's are troublesome especially when you have large amount of ap's.
The ap's that have the lowest associated uptime would be at the bottom. That way you can track also.

- Of course this focuses on the reverse : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/catalyst-9800-series-wireless-controllers/217738-monitor-catalyst-9800-kpis-key-performa.html#toc-hId--1620538988
but remains useful for a mirror measurement of your problem,
M.
