Hi , being a complete doughnut , I typed erase flash instead of erase startup config , on my AP , so now I have wiped it.

If I try the proceedure of holding the button for 30 seconds while reseting , to get the image from a tftp server is dous not work as it looks for a ios image I do not have , with a .default extension ??

I currently get this out put from the AP

ap: Xmodem file system is available.

flashfs[0]: 6 files, 3 directories

flashfs[0]: 0 orphaned files, 0 orphaned directories

flashfs[0]: Total bytes: 7741440

flashfs[0]: Bytes used: 24064

flashfs[0]: Bytes available: 7717376

flashfs[0]: flashfs fsck took 9 seconds.

Reading cookie from flash parameter block...done.

Base ethernet MAC Address: 00:0c:ce:33:33:24

Initializing ethernet port 0...

Reset ethernet port 0...

Reset done!

link auto-negotiating....

auto-negotiation takes 10000 milli-seconds to complete

ERROR: timeout waiting for auto-negotiation to complete

ERROR: fail to bring ethernet link up

The system has been encountered an error initializing

ethernet port. You may need to check hardware

The system is ignoring the error and continuint boot.

If you interrupt the system boot process, the following

commands will reinitialize ethernet, tftp, and finish

loading the operating system software:

ether_init

tftp_init

boot

The system is unable to boot automatically because there

are no bootable files to boot.

C1200 Boot Loader (C1200-BOOT-M) Version 12.2(11)JA, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE S)

How do I get the image back on there ???

can I use xmodem ?? if so how ?

I am getting to be a bit of a pain on these forums

Darren,

Have you tried this step by step ?? It is vital that the ip adress and files names are exact

Using the MODE button

You can use the MODE button on the access point to reload the access point image file from an active Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server on your network or on a PC connected to the access point Ethernet port.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note If your access point experiences a firmware failure or a corrupt firmware image, indicated by three red LED indicators, you must reload the image from a connected TFTP server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note This process resets all configuration settings to factory defaults, including passwords, WEP keys, the access point IP address, and SSIDs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow the steps below to reload the access point image file:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 The PC you intend to use must be configured with a static IP address in the range of 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.30.

Step 2 Make sure the PC contains the access point image file (c1100-k9w7-tar.default) in the TFTP server folder and the TFTP server is activated. For additional information, refer to the "Obtaining the Access Point Image File" and "Obtaining TFTP Server Software" sections.

Step 3 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.

Step 4 Disconnect power (the power jack for external power or the Ethernet cable for in-line power) from the access point.

Step 5 Press and hold the MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.

Step 6 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds), and release the MODE button.

Step 7 Wait until the access point reboots as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.

Step 8 After the access point reboots, you must reconfigure the access point by using the Web interface, the Telnet interface, or IOS commands.

Hi , yes I followed this exactly.

The problem with this method is that when the AP attempts to get the image ( stored in tftp root). It is configured to look for a specific image file , which I do not have, I know this as I watched the progress from the console .

the image it looks for c1200-k9w7-tar.default If it cannot find this image the process fails ,

I cannot find this image anywhere , in fact the instructions youlinked it references c1100-k9w7-tar.default which is an 1100 ap image file . If I could get hold of the required image I would be ok.

note that both have an .default extension ? I have yet to see a ios image file with a default extention anywhere , or is that an instruction to set to defualt ?

If I can aquire the specified image I would be ok.

Well in the end here is what I had to do

1 download the following IOS c1200-k9w7-tar.122-11.JA.tar

2 then rename that file to c1200-k9w7-tar.default

3. drop that file in the TFTP root & follow the recovery proceedure.
