Hi,

Is it possible to force LAP running with channel 52, 56,60 or 64?

I have configured LAP running channel 36 - 48 statically, using WLC.

But I cannot configure statical 52 channel for my LAP in lab.

Thank you for your advice.

Are those channels allowed? This depends on the regulatory domain for the access point. I would verify that first.

That channel is a DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) Channel.  The DFS Channels are suceptible to radar interferrence and can not be hard set.  If the AP hears radar on those channels it has to be able to move away.

Scott,

Thank you for your help. In Japan, channel 52 - 64 is allowed as DFS channel, as Stephen says.

I hear that WLAN AP has to check if there is radar or not before running with DFS channel.  Can you configure to run DFS channel statically for Cisco AP?

Regards,

Kawakami

I don't really understand your question, but if the channel is allowed by your AP's country code, you can configure it. Can you tell the ap not to use DFS, you can turn off DFS but you can block certain channels.

Scott,

Thank you for the info. Let me confirm. Can I change LAP config throght console?

Regares,

Kawakami

what is the AP model?

please attach show version

Maldehne,

Thank you for your help. AP is Aironet 3502. I will post show version later.

Regards,

Kawakami

Please find attached show version for the AP.

I found "dfs band" command is not allowed in dot11radio interface for the AP.

I wonder if it is because old IOS version or WLC environment. I am confused.

I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

---------------------------------------------------

the AP is lightweight mode AP.

so you should do everything from the controller.

You can statically configure a DFS channel. When the AP detects radar on that channel , it will stop servicing clients on that channel and exclude it for 30 minutes. A new channel will be selected from the DCA channel list, even if the channel has been configured statically.

having a limited list of channels from which the new channel will be selected depends on the regulatory domain and the DCA channel list configuration.

So ,the second place to tune the selection is under the DCA channel list configuration.

Abhishek,

Thank you for your help.

I tried to change channel for the LAP 3502 using WLC, referring to below;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/7.0/configuration/guide/c70rrm.html#wp1099018

On GUI, "custom" radio button and following drop-down field shows only 36, 40, 44 and 48 channel.

On CLI, "config 802.11a channel ap (AP name) 52" command returns "unable to set channel."

How do I troublleshoot the reason?

Regards,

Kawakami
