I have the following business requierement:
I have 3x WiSM2 on Slot 2,3 and 4 on a 6509 Chassis 1 and the same setup for a second 6509. Currently I have 6 active WLCs on the network.
The requirement is to add HA and make 3 active and 3 on hot stand-by. The setup is on a Layer 2 network. My question is regarding if this setup is supported and if I should be aware of any gotchas?
Here's a diagram of the end goal.
Thanks in advance for the support.

This can be done as long as both chassis are in a VSS pair & Management IP address of all the WiSM2 must be in the same subnet.

I'm planning on running 8.1 but no VSS mode. Possible?

and have all 3 WLC use the same redundancy VLAN

but no VSS mode. Possible?
Nope. Not possible.
If it's non-VSS mode chassis, then the WiSM2 line cards must be in the same chassis.

Leo, this is possible on 7.5 release and later: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-1/HA_SSO_DG/High_Availability_DG.html#pgfId-78197

Thanks for this. I've never seen this in the wild before.

I have build this configuration in the past with success using just one WiSM in both 6500's. The HA traffic between both WLC's should be strictly isolated in a L2 VLAN which is specified with the "wism redundancy-vlan" command.
As far as I know you can't configure this for a specific WiSM module so I'm wondering if this topology with multiple WiSM's pairs is actually supported...

● Two WiSM-2 on the same chassis
● TwoWiSM-2on different chassis with redundancy VLAN extended over the Layer 2 network
● TwoWiSM-2on different chassis in VSS mode

This is supported as per http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-1/HA_SSO_DG/High_Availability_DG.html#pgfId-78197 from 7.5 release.
Hope it helps
