Hi there,
I have a setup whereby there are 7 Cisco 1200 Aironet APs deployed across a warehouse whereby RF termianls are used to transmit data back to the APs before going back to the server.
The problem is, the RF terminals will always hang at a particular spot in the warehouse each time a user brings the RF terminal there. The definition of hang means that the terminal will freeze before rebooting again.
The funny thing is that at the point of hanging, there is an access point located about 20 meters in front of it mounted about 3 meters up with the antenna a further 3 meters up. The coverage throughout the entire warehouse is excellent with coverage on all areas of the warehouse.
Is there a solution to prevent the hang?
Regards

When the terminal hang, does it still associate to the AP? If so, please tell me the signal stregth and noise level when the termina hungs.

hi, when the terminal hangs, it just freezes and reboots itself again after which it will be able to work perfectly.
in the affected area, there is a good signal strength and a noise level of more than 30DB at the spot where the terminal hangs. when it hangs, i am not able to perform a ping at all but there is still a noise level of at least 30DB.

I assume that the RF terminal still associates to the AP. What operating system runs on the RF terminal? Have you use a device with different operating system (say Windows XP or Windows 2000) on the same spot?

Hi,
on the RF terminal, a Telnet Emulation program is used to pull in the program from the server using wireless networking. I have personally tried using a win 98 Laptop and tablet PC as well as a Windows XP laptop at the same area with no hangs or freezes at that particular spot. In fact, I am able to simulate the Telnet program using the laptop for as long as I want to and the program will not freeze. It only freezes when I use the RF terminal and reflashing the firmware and telnet version to various versions ( 4 different ones ) does not help at all.
I am not too sure if it is hardware incompatibility or the software version. What makes it more strange is that there is excellent coverage around the warehouse. Unless my antennas are too strong (5dBi) or not pointing in the right direction, I cannot really pinpoint the exact fault of the problem.
Thanks

Did you ever figure out this issue? I am curious what model client device you are using and what type of client radio. We had similar issues with LXE brand clients with Cisco 350 radios.
