Is Cisco APs proprietary?

I will like to make inquiries about the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series
Access Points.
I want to know if the Access Points are Cisco proprietary. Is it
possible to have Cisco Aironet 1400 Series Access Point and connect
third-party Subscriber units to it?
If not, which other Cisco Access Points are not proprietary?

When dealing with a 1410 for the most part yes they are propietary.  Bridging with 802.11 really isn't standardized so each vendor could do it slightly different.  A 1410 is only a wireless bridge and doesn't accept client associations so it will only associate to other 1410's.  I have seen some of the other Cisco AP's that have been able to associate to another vendor such as a wireless ISP.
