LAP 1242 antenna connector termination

Hello,

We have deployed LAP 1242 APs with one antenna connected to the right hand side antenna connector and the left one is not terminated. The APs are separated 2 inches vertically and 7 inches horizontally. The controllers are configure for auto power and channel assignments. We also have configure G netwrok diversity to the right hand with A network disable.

Question: what is imptact of un-terminated 2.4 G connector on the stability of the wireless network?

Hi Bo,

Diversity helps with a wireless issue known as "multipath". It's when the originating signal arrives multiple times at the destination.

Diversity is not required, but it is very noticeably helpful in factory environments, or any environment with a lot of metal or reflective surfaces in it.

As long as you are configured to use only the right/primary connector, the dormant left connector will not cause any problems for you. If you do install a diversity antenna, make sure to make it the exact same antenna that it connected to the right/primary, and also make sure that it covers the same space that the primary does. Place the antennas apart by the same distance that the connectors themselves are apart on the AP.

Also, if you do not configure the AP to use just the right antenna and leave the left on without an antenna connected to it, you run the risk of burning out the transmitter.
