On a 4402 wireless controller (188.8.131.52) with LAP1242AG-E-K9 and LAP1252AG-E-K9 access points I receive lots of messages like this:
Dec 9 12:55:16 ap-a1 1466: AP:001a.2f58.d4d6: *Dec 9 11:55:16.174: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
Dec 9 12:55:17 ap-a1 1467: AP:001a.2f58.d4d6: *Dec 9 11:55:16.211: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to up
what is a little bit annoying, in particular for voice communications.
Is there a way to get more information from any logs or is there a similar problem discussion anywhere on this forum?
Do you happen to have RLDP enabled on your WLC? (show rogue ap rldp summary)
If yes, this behavior is expected, as the AP is attempting to associate to rogue APs.
If no, we need to gather some more information -- could you pull the output of a "show controller d0" from one of the APs experiencing this issue?
Yes, RLDP is enabled on the WLC. That should explain this behaviour.
I used the "show controller d0" also and it gave me (at the end of its output) this summary:
Last radio reset code: 62
Radio resets - total:2732 retries:0 failed:0
Reset Stats: Start Cnt: 2693, Recovery: Cnt 0, Last Ret: 0, Fails: 0, Recvry Status: Stalled NO, In Prog NO
Code/Count: 37/00007 51/00072 52/00038 54/00001
Code/Count: 62/02357 64/00128 65/00128 67/00001
Is the error code 62 coherent with this?
Alright, some of your radio resets are due to RLDP, but there is also another issue going on:
Code 62: Reset due to channel set
Code 64: RLDP start
Code 65: RLDP stop
It's possible that this AP could be experiencing repeated channel changes...you might want to reset one of these APs and check the counters periodically.
if code 62 continues, check what channel this AP is using -- see if it is changing frequently. You can then modify your DCA settings or set this particular AP to a static channel depending on the results.
Thanks for the reply. I'll check about frequent channel changes...
I have also noticed some resets with error codes:
- 51 about 80 per AP
- 52 about 43 per AP
- 37 about 7 per AP
- 54 about 1 per AP
- 67 about 1 per AP
- 71 about 1 per AP
Is there way to find what they are related to?
Unfortunately I do not think we have the radio status codes published, but I'll comment on them here:
Status 51: Reset on transmit completion. I'm not 100%, but I think this means the radio was supposed to reset (due to another reason) but had data to transmit, so it completed TX and then reset.
Status 52: Reset on completion of multicast packets. Similar to above, just with multicast traffic being queued up.
Status 37: Generic interface reset (up/down), often seen during bootup or on configuration changes.
Status 54: Radio interface was shutdown -- either configured by the user or perhaps part of the boot process.
Status 67: Reset after changing hostname on the AP. This also would occur on bootup once the config is loaded.
Status 71: Reset to update radio status on WLC. Also usually done upon AP joining the WLC after bootup.
Pat -- You rock .. +5
If you are seeing status code 62 resets when the AP channel is fixed that sounds like there might be another issue going on.
At this point in time I would recommend you go ahead and open up a TAC SR to investigate this further.
