LWAP can't write image to flash

Sven Lindeke
Level 1
Level 1

Hello.

After upgrade to new controller version 7.5 on my 5508, I have two access points that won't connect to controller anymore.

Before the upgrade, I pre-downloaded the new images to all access points and that worked well.

I now connected to one of the two access points through console and got the following error messages in log:

Unable to create temp dir "flash:/update"

Download image failed, notify controller!!! From:7.4.110.0 to 0.0.0.0, FailureCode:7

When I try to download an image manually, I get the same error.

I can't even "dir" the flash anymore.

Anyone an idea?

Regards,

Sven Lindeke

Hi,

It sounds like the flash is bad or corrupt. A format or fsck may fix it. Hard to say. If that doesn't work, here's to the folks at TAC

Try to fomat flash.

More INfo.

Formatting doesn't work either:

ap: format flash:

Are you sure you want to format "flash:" (all data will be lost) (y/n)?y

Filesystem "flash:" not formatted -- device busy

( the same before and after flash_init )

"dir flash" brings up:

ap: dir flash

unable to stat flash/: permission denied

Hallo sven,

It indicates that there is no space in the Flash to store the new configuration. Try to delete any old crash files that exist.

Auch check this document

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-4462

Regards

HI Sven,

It looks like you might need to reformat the flash on the AP -- if you can login to it while it is booted up we can try the following procedure:

ap#format flash:

After it's finished, we want to load the recovery image back on the AP using this command:

archive download-sw /force /over tftp:///apXg1-rcvk9w8-tar......tar

However, if the AP is rebooted after reformatting, then it will go to the bootloader menu, at which point we have another process to follow:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_21a_JA1/configuration/guide/scg12421aJA1-chap22-trouble.html#wp1048378

If neither of these options work, then you should probably open up a TAC service request.

Grüsse

Hi.

Ok, I tried everything from the posts you mentioned and nothing worked.

I will open a TAC case, but I think that the flash memory is broken.

Anyway, thanks for the hints!
