Hi all!
I'm trying to figure out the Cisco recommended number of hops for clients in a mesh network (indoor or outdoor). I know the backhaul hops (max 8 outdoor and 2 - 4 indoor depending on application... voice should be no more than 2 hops for example)... but I cant seem to find any documentation for client hop recommendations. Just FYI, this is just for my knowledge.. Im not actually implementing anything.
Thanks and happy weekend!

Hi Ryan,
This is Ryan. First of all, great question. And well done for researching and finding out the answer for yourself!. The client hops requirement really depends on throughput. The throughput can be calculated with:
Throughput = BR * ( 0.5 * 1/n ) * PSR
Where Where BR = Raw backhaul rate (that is, 18, 24 Mbps) n = Backhaul hop count, and PSR = Packet success rate (that is 1.0 – PER, a
value between 0.0 and 1.0).
All the best,
Ryan.
