I currently have a set of 5508 WLC's that is handling my wireless environment.
Need to add an Anchor Controller to handle the Guest wireless network.
Can I have a 9800-L as the Anchor or do I need to use a 3504?
Thanks

If i were you and got budget then make 9800-L as main controller upgrading from 5508 - and make 5508 as Guest Anchor.
Also need to check AP comparability, if this is too complicated for you, then 3504 is good to start investment point of view.

budgets are always a problem these days so upgrading the 5508's to 9800's is not an easy lift.
so will TAC support 9800L as the anchor with the 5508's as the WLCs

Hi Richard
Just came across this post, did you use the 9800L as an anchor in the end? It is something I'm looking at the moment also.

Dave

Hi,
Did you try this kind of deployment? what was the outcome?

Hi,
I am looking for a similar deployment. Whether this can be achieved?

Both are possible considering that you run a IRCM image in 5508. All the options are listed in this document.
