Mobility compatibility on WLC 5508 version 8.5.103.0

Hi,

We have a WLC 5508 running 8.1.102.0 that we need to upgrade to 8.5.103.0. The controller has mobility configured and has a 2504 guest anchor hanging off it. The issue is that the release notes for 8.5.103.0 state "Cisco 5508 WLC cannot function as mobility controller (MC). However, it can function as guest anchor in a New Mobility environment"

Link to release notes - https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn85.html#wlc-5508-wism2

However the configuration guide for 8.5 suggests mobility can be configured.

Link to config guide - https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/8-5/config-guide/b_cg85/overview.html

Can anybody advise if upgrading to the new code will break the current mobility setup? I can't beleive Cisco would remove this functionality but the release notes from 8.3 up suggest they have whilst the user guide contradicts this.

Thanks

"Cisco 5508 WLC cannot function as mobility controller (MC). However, it can function as guest anchor in a New Mobility environment"

You need to pay attention to this only if you enable "new mobiity" on your environment. See below for details

If you are not configured that, then you should be able to establish mobility peering between your anchor 2504 with 5508 running 8.5.

Thanks Rasika, I did look at that but due to the wording could not be sure that is what was meant. Perhaps it should read as below to make it clear.

"In a New Mobility enviornment the Cisco 5508 WLC cannot function as mobility controller (MC). However, it can function as guest anchor."

Regards

Gary.
