Hello,

We have some APs that have been relocated from one controller to another.

The original controller was a Cisco 5760 (IOS 3.6.6.E) and now im trying to get it to register to a Cisco 5520 (AIREOS 8.2.166.0)

I cant get onto the AP but a debug from the controller shows:

Hi @linda12345

This log tells you the problem:

"Could not find image version of bundled AP"

Run the command "show ap bundle  all"

Example output:

@Flavio Miranda

Thankyou for your reply. I should have mentioned, i have 50 perfectly good 3702 APs registered (came new in box) its just the ones that came from another location im having issues with.

Hi @Flavio Miranda

Thankyou for your reply. Sorry i should have mentioned I have already quite a few 3702s registered (they came brand new in box) only having issues with the ones that came from another site (and was registered to a 5760 controller. Are there issues moving an AP from an IOS controller to an AIREOS controller?!

There should be no issues to move them, the question is, what is your wan link between your site the AP’s are at and the 5520?  Since your 5520 has the right code, that shouldn’t be an issue.

Typically you just change the AP high availability and then bounce the AP. If there is something corrupted, then if you are remote, you would have to ssh to each AP and then delete the image file and private-config, tftp the recovery image and use option 43 or dns to point the AP to the 5520.

Thanks @Scott Fella

The 5520 and these APs are all on the same lan. Unfortunately i cant SSH onto any of these. Looks like i'll have to rip them out of the ceiling and console onto them.

Linda,

I think you can enable ssh to the AP’s from the 5760. By default, ssh is disabled.

Thanks @Scott Fella

Thats a good point. Will definitely enable SSH on existing APs. My next project is to swap out existing onsite 5760 controllers with 5520s. I'd hate to have this problem when dealing with hundreds of APs.

Scott,
what was this part:
*spamApTask3: Feb 10 13:29:24.306: [PA] 00:6b:f1:66:58:80 AP 00:6b:f1:66:58:80 has default credentials and so invalid to support Telnet

Was the 5520 rejecting the link from the ios ap's due to cisco/cisco?
Linda, pick an ap and change the credentials to match those in the WLC...

migrating from WLC 5760 (IOS XE) to WLC 5520. Existing WLC (5760) is already integrated with Cisco ISE and Prime. Currently Access Points and WLC are in same vlan and WLC is discovered using local broadcast. While migrating  AP from OLD WLC to New WLC, what would be the best practice to be followed. suggestions on the below steps.
1. Install new WLC (5520) with new MGMT IP
2. Configure HA
3. Upgrade New WLC to 8.3.133.0
4. Integrate with ISE, Prime
5. Configure WLAN
6. Migrate AP to New WLC
7. Test and Monitor
You can go this way. I personally would integrate the new WLC after you have done the whole configuration. This is because I don't like Prime for configuration management.
Once the configuration is done, add the new WLC to the same Mobility Group.
After this, start by changing the primary WLC on an AP configuration in the Prime, this will cause the AP to immediately switch the WLC, reboot, update firmware, reboot, connect with new WLC. Then you can test your configuration and check if everything is working. Do this for the first 1-5 APs. Once you're confident everything is working, start to migrate them by floor or building, until you're done.
That's at least how I would do it ;)
Oh and don't forget to apply best practices from here, before changing the first AP:

Thankyou for your detailed response. That's a great strategy that will allow us to test before migrating all APs over but also to stagger the AP registration and d/l of the new firmware.

Thankyou for sharing. No doubt this will be helpful for others also!
