Multiple Profiles with Same SSID/Security Profiles

Hi Experts,

Our company standard is to use one SSID across all centers. My objective is to create different profiles for each building so any changes made on that specific profile (for new features or testing) will not affect the whole organization but only specific centers. Apparently, WLC won't allow me to create same SSIDs with the same security policies between IDs 1 to 16. So I created all the WLAN profiles above 17 so I can take advantage of the same SSID/Security Polices configuration. So far I have been using 17 to 20 but I will have to deploy it to around 10 more sites. Will there be any disadvantage or issues? We are using 8540s. I have read that if you want this kind of setup, the profiles need to be created above 16 but it didn't mention any disadvantage.

Thanks,

John

I would not do that.

I would create  single profile (or SSID) and create separate AP groups for each building (if you want that level restriction). You only add APs in a single building to the required AP group .

Thanks for the feedback.

Each building has its own AP group. My only worry is, if I have one root WLAN profile and if I need to make some changes that would require the WLAN to halt then several regions will be affected by the change. It was mentioned here that it is allowed to have the same SSID/Security policies if needed as long as it is 17 and above. There are some dudes saying that there will be an issue but I couldn't find any article related to some kind of issue.

Thanks,

Same SSID with different profiles helped us for below requirement..and is working fine.

Requirement: Same SSID needs to be Flex Connect at one building but central switching at other buildings with non flex AP's.

The original SSID has flex capability.
Created another WLAN profile with number greater than 17 with same SSID, Flex capable. Using AP group push this WLAN ID# and some dummy interface(flex VLAN). The AP's have to be Flexconnect inside Flexconnect group matching VLAN config.

Any changes to this WLAN profile only affects this building.
