Port channel Numbers

Hello,

I am setting up port channels for the first time in a new network.

I am using a cisco WS-C3850-24S switch to uplink our IDF's which are 2960x switches.

My question is if IDF 1 is uplinked on the 3850 on port 5 and the channel port group on the 3850 on port 5 is channel-group 5  mode active. Does uplink on the switch also have to be on channel-group 5?

Or can it be anynumber?

Channel group number is locally significant. So it does not need to match at both ends of the link.
