RF group between 8.5 and 8.10 WLC's

Hi,

I have an WLC 8540 running 8.5.140 code (HA pair) that has approximately 1800 AP's that is acting as an RF leader (auto) that is running the entire campus.  I want to do a PoC of a WLC 3540 (HA pair) running 8.10.121.0 with 9120AXI AP's in one of the buildings that have AP's that are running on the WLC 8540.  This would be mean that I would be replacing out the existing AP's in one of the buildings/floors to demo the 9120AXI AP's.  I know that I want to put them on the same mobility group/mobility group name.  Where I get confused is the RF group.  Should I put them on the same RF group (Static or auto) OR put the WLC 3540 on it's on RF group.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks,

Hello,

If 9120 connected to 3500 WLC can hear AP connected to the 8540 WLC. Then you need to use the same RF group, otherwise, 9120 would not be taken into consideration for RRM calculations but they will be marked as rogue APs. You do not want that.

3500 can follow 8540 lead to set channels and powers and both AP can co-exist.
