Hi,
I have ordered a AIR-CT5508-HA-K9. It doesn't pair up with an active WLC and there is no permanent AP license on that HA-SKU.
I wonder whether I can do any configuration or perform software upgrade on the standalone HA-SKU?
Thanks.

You can do both, but you can use that HA-sku only for SSO or N+1. You can't use it as a standalone because you will get an error after 90 days.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
If the ha-sku is deployed in N+1 mode, it still needs to be the ha-standby for the HA pair, right?
It cannot be the standalone backup WLC as N+1. Is it the right case?
Thanks.

That is correct. The HA sku would be the backup for a licensed controller.

Please tell me is it right ?
An HA-SKU controller with an evaluation license cannot become a standby controller. However, an HA-SKU controller with zero license can become a standby controller.
This is from here
I have HA-SKU wlc 5508 with evaluation licence as Active and it is unit secondary and I have Standby wlc 5508 with 50-ap-base licence as Standby and it is unit primary. Is it normal ? Web interface does not show me 50-ap-base licence Š¾n Active (secondary unit) wlc. I can see the licence only if I down Standby wlc. Any idea ?

Also know cisco no longer sells the HA controller SKU.
