Unable to access gui when ssid is changed

If you change the ssid, you will not be able to access the gui for a certain period of time.

Of course, ping doesn't go out either.

And after a certain amount of time, you can connect again.

Is there a command related to that?

 - Make sure this configuration is applied :

Device(config)# wireless mgmt-via-wireless

Also review the current 9800-CL configuration with the CLI command : show  tech   wireless , have the output analyzed by  https://cway.cisco.com/tools/WirelessAnalyzer/  , please note do not use classical show tech-support (short version) , use the command denoted in green for Wireless Analyzer.

I assume that you can access the GUI over the wireless. So adding the command "wireless mgmt-via-wireless" becomes redundant.

Do you have a firewall between the Wireless VLAN and the Management VLAN? I would like to see the http configuration and line vty configuration of your box.

No that is not normal behavior. The SSID has nothing to do with the gui mgmt of the 9800.

Your management IP should be on its own interface and the IP range should not be apart of your SSID interfaces whether they are L2 or L3 on your controller.

@AdamF1 it is normal if the user is connecting to the WLC via the SSID they have changed because the WLAN will be reset when the change is made.

It is normal if you are on the SSID that you changed.  The SSID needs will reset when you hit apply.  It is not normal if you are on a wired connection, different SSID, on VPN and a change to an SSID kills access to the GUI.  Take a look at the responses others have provided you.  Maybe add more information on how you can reproduce the issue.
