Understanding Cisco 5508 8.0 WLC Licensing

I have a pair of WLC5508 controllers each in HA mode - licensed for 12AP's. We have 14 OEAPS

These are anchor controllers for OEAP's. Each OEAP is configured with both controllers in Primary/Secondary order.

We have manually load balanced them and each controller (GUI) reports the number of OEAP's as below the licensing threshold and indicates that there is spare capacity.

However, if you log onto the CLI of each controller and issue a sh ap join summary all it reports 14 OEAPS and I am now having issues getting previously connected OEAP's to join.

Am I misreading the CLI output? Or is the GUI wrong?

Hi Russell,

Sorry but I think I didn't understand the query. In order to understand it properly ,

>> You have 2x5508 WLCs setup in HA mode (Not AP SSO).

>> Both Primary and secondary have 12 AP permanent licenses installed.   (Please check under Management>> Software activation>> License usage)

>> You have in total 14 APs. 7 should be registered to the Primary and other 7 should be on the secondary.

Am I correct in my understanding ? If I am , what is the issue that you are seeing ?

i am still wondering what is the exact issue

Cheers,

Manish

there is a complete machenicsim to understand the WLC licensing.

in your case your "all of AP joins the Primary WLC they always read the primary wlc licesne.

the notification of which shows you is not wrong on GUI. it the evaluation period notification of WLC APs. you can check it on Management Tab--> Software activation--> license

Thank you. I was mixing up the output of show Ap join statistics summary all and the output on the gui for license usage.
So we have 14 AP's split across the 2 controllers each with licences for 12 AP'S.
