Why do I need to power cycle a Cisco Aironet1242ag WAP often?

Jesus Carrillo

Hello everybody!

I'm having a little issue with some Cisco Aironet1242ag WAP's. I receive a call at least twice a month stating that some of the WAP's are not giving out internet connection. What I always do is go to my patch panel and disconnect those WAP's not working and connect them back again so they can power cycle. These WAP's are connected to a Cisco3750g. Once the WAP's boot up, the users can connect to the WAP and connect to the internet.

I don't know if these WAP's are filling up with some information that causes the access points to not connect to the WAN.

I appreaciate any feedback from you all.

Chuy

Hi,

I assume this AP work as Autonomous AP. Post here config of AP and 3750g. So we can help you.

Your topology looks like this:

AP --> 3750g --> Router --> Internet ?

Abzal

Best regards,
Abzal

Correct, that is the way we have it setup. AP-->3750G-->6509-->Internet.

We also have a DHCP server with VLAN 50 for wireless. On the AP I have it to VLAN 50, on the 3750g I have the port as Switchport mode trunk. On the 6509 the vlan has the iphelper pointing to the DHCP server.

Im sorry that I don't have the configs with me right now, but I should be able to post them tomorrow.

Thanks,

Chuy

If I understood you right, users connect to AP and correctly get their IP address on VLAN 50. But do not have access to the Internet. What about local LAN, do they have access to internal resources?

And it happens with all users that connecting to that AP? Or just some of them?

What version of IOS on AP and 3750G?

Abzal

Best regards,
Abzal

Sembay;

Sorry for the delay on answering. I went and got the configs off the switch and an WAP that I need to power cycle so it can work again.

Again, users can connect to internet and local servers fine. The issue is that once in a while I need to turn off and on the WAP when the users cannot connect to this WAP. Once I power off and power it back on the users can connect back again to internet with no problem.

Wrong forum, post in "wireless". You can move your post using the actions panel on the right.

Hello,

I moved the post in the wireless section and was able to get an answer. I found out that the AP's that were deauthenticating had a memory leak. They adviced me to input the following command in the dot11radio interface:

packet retries 128 drop-packet

Thanks a lot!
