Hello Sir,
I want know from A to Z the details regarding planning and implementing wireless solution and technologies in power plant controls. (I will install a WLAN in a power plant).
I want know all the different wireless technologies with all the details.
Any help wold be appreciated.

Well, wireless in a power plant may work...and it may not. As you know, there is EMI in a power plant. My advice is to give it a try and see if it works. There are many books on 802.11b wireless at Border's books.

A few years ago we installed a WLAN system in one of our Hydro Electric Generating stations. One Aironet 340 AP was placed at the end of the station and wired to the LAN. We required 2 repeaters with dual 3dB antennas to cover the 1000' building properly. The more powerfull 350 series would have been better choice. We have not had any interference problems from the 60Hz.

I would be interested to know what type of Power Plant you are considering. I maintain the distributed control system networks at a large multi-unit coal fired steam power plant (super heated dry steam) using TCP/IP over Ethernet. We tried a wireless solution from Fluke several years ago (they dont make it anymore) with limited success. It was only used for data acquisition NO control. With all the EMF at a large power plant I would not want to count on wireless for control of a large boiler/turbo set; a loss of connectivity for even short periods of time could prove disastrous. We use fiber and though it may be more expensive to lay initially; reliability has to be factored as well. I think this would be a great solution at a hydro, small peaking, gas turbine, or combined cycle station.
Please let this list know on your application and your success I am highly interested in this type of application.
