wireless unknowns

Hello,

We are running a Cisco 2504 WLC with 25 - 1200 series AP's.

The network is configured to use 802.11g only on the controller.

The issue I am facing (a large one), when I scan the network using inSSIDer 2.1, I get many "unknowns" that are on the same channel.

The MAC address is incremented by one digit at the end, this seems to be the way inSSIDer does the MAC table.

The MAC for the AP is the proper broadcast MAC that is listed on the WLC.

If anyone can assisst and let me know what I am looking at, that would be awesome!!!!

This is so frustrating and I am worried about the cancellation of signal.

Thank you,

Jim

Well this may vary.... unknowns a usually hidden SSID's. If you have a high density of AP's, then its normal to see so many on a given channel since the 2.4ghz only has 3 channels. Are you having channels.

There are a couple units that are close, but the channels are associated with the proper ssids.  The unknown's seem to almost be the same AP broadcasting.

The MAC address seems to indicate this.

This is why this is so confusing!

I am thinking about statically assigning channels to avoid any overlap.

Is there anything in the controller that could be changed or set that you are aware of?

Thank you!!!
