Wireless Upgrade to 3600 Series AP

Currently we are using WISMs to support 1220 series APs firmware version 7.022 upgradeable only to version 7.023. We have purchased 5508's and want to install 3600s hanging them off the new 5508s. We are replacing the core and the 6500 that houses the WISMs will be sunset along with the 1220s. I can't afford an enterprise downtime and need to slowly replace the 1220s with the new 3600s. Both the WISMs and new 5508 are in the same subnet. Currently the 5508 has the same firmware version as the WISM. Now the issue. When I install the 3600 it will not connect to controllers. I found that the 3600s require at a minimum firmware version 7.1xx. If I upgrade the 5508 to the newest firmware code 7.3x will the 3600s connect to the 5508? If not what is the recommended solution. I know it is not good to run different firmware versions on different controllers but it may be several months before we can totally remove all the 1220s and install the 3600s.

Yes.

Success....I upgraded the code on the 5508 to 7.3. Then had to tweak option 43 and add option 60 to DHCP because the AP would not find the controller. The 3600s went to the correct controller. No issues.....thanks for the validation.....
