WLC 5520 ( 8.5.140.0) authentication latency

when students log in to SSID they experience latency from the time they log into the laptop and the time they can start using the desktop, it will spin sometimes up to 20 minutes in delay. We have done TAC cases and engineers say from the logs the authentication goes quick but not sure why the latency before the laptop is operational. From the controllers they authenticate to the AD radius servers, wired devices are never a problem to the same servers. Any experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like you want to load some computer policies or similar with way to long timeouts or no retrials.

Have a look at WTP (assuming you have Windows): https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/core-infrastructure-and-security/wpt-peeking-at-logon-delays/ba-p/258823

Is this happening to all types of wireless devices or a particular type of client device? If there are any group policies implemented, that could delay in login time. If you experience this issue on laptops, pls check that.

Yes, group policy is implemented in the student domain, the issue happens when classes start and students are logging in at the same time as classes begin. We try to have students use the same laptop each time they log in.

I think looking a packet capture from one of the connections is going to help you a lot in figuring out what is going on.  You may be able to see what's happening right away and what is taking time.
