WLC 5520 HA Setup Proble

Hi, I need help to get a HA SSO setup running.

I try to setup HA with SSO with 2x WLC 5520 version 8.2.151.0. (RTU Evaluation License by now)

- Network Connection beween the WLC5520: LAG with a tagged vlan. (because of design Guide topology seems to be supported, no physical redundancy port needed)

- configured primary/secondary role and redundancy IP's on both units (I don't know wich one has the HA-SKU, not shown)
config interface address redundancy-management <local-ip> peer-redundancy-management <peer-ip>
config redundancy unit primary
config redundancy mode sso

- following redundancy states on Primary / Secondary WLC:

(Primary) >show redundancy detail
Redundancy Management IP Address................. 1.1.1.25
Peer Redundancy Management IP Address............ 1.1.1.23
Redundancy Port IP Address....................... 169.254.250.25
Peer Redundancy Port IP Address.................. 169.254.250.23

(Secondary) >show redundancy detail
Redundancy Management IP Address................. 1.1.1.23
Peer Redundancy Management IP Address............ 1.1.1.25
Redundancy Port IP Address....................... 169.254.250.23
Peer Redundancy Port IP Address.................. 169.254.250.25

(Primary) >show redundancy summary
            Redundancy Mode = SSO ENABLED
                Local State = ACTIVE
Peer State = UNKNOWN - Communication Down
                       Unit = Primary
                    Unit ID = F8:0B:CB:D6:0C:25
           Redundancy State = Non Redundant
               Mobility MAC = F8:0B:CB:D6:0C:25
            BulkSync Status = Pending

(Secondary) >show redundancy summary
            Redundancy Mode = SSO ENABLED
                Local State = MAINTENANCE
Peer State = UNKNOWN - Communication Down
                       Unit = Secondary
                    Unit ID = F8:0B:CB:D6:06:73
           Redundancy State = Non Redundant
               Mobility MAC = F8:0B:CB:D6:06:73
Maintenance Mode = Enabled
Maintenance cause= Peer RP is not reachable or Hardware model/Software version mismatch

Hello Alois,

Yes you need the RP in order to build SSO.

And it has to be Layer 2 between the 2 RPs, so either directy connected or through a VLAN.

Hello,

looks like you are missing the recommended connection HA connection between the two controllers.

Here re is the documents for HA.

Note: A direct physical connection between Active and Standby Redundant Ports is highly recommended. The distance between the connections can go up to 100 meters at per Ethernet cable standards.

I hope this helps

Hi,
Thank's for the info.

I have connected my controllers like in the VSS-Pair deployment. So no RP port ist connected.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-1/HA_SSO_DG/High_Availability_DG.html#pgfId-196171
I also checked cisco live presentation slides (BRKEWN-3014), no info on RP port needed.

I think this would be a supported Architekture ? Do I really need a RP port anyway ?

Best regards
Alois

Seems with any HA setup I need a connected RP port. Found by more carefully reading Design Guide, Deployment Guide and BRKEWN-3014.

Will try to get RP ports connected now.
