wlc 8510 and licensing

Hello,

We've just bought new wlc model 8510 and I'm starting the configuration but there is things I don't understand regarding the licencing part. When I look at Management -> Software activation -> licence, I can see an ap_count 6000 evaluation licence and not a definitive one althought it should have been pre-installed. This evaluation licence appears to be Active but not in use so 12 weeks 5 days remaining to use.

What I don't understand is that I can configure some APs to join this wlc, they are registered and active. How does it work without any active licence?

Thanks for your help!

Théo

Cisco 8500 Series Wireless Controllers provide right-to-use (with EULA agreement). Just go to license and add the number of license you purchased.

I did not know that!

We bought a licence adder for 500 access points, so i've added it to the wlc using RTU EULA and it'w now working perfectly.

Many thanks for your help, 5 stars for you!

Hello,

Can you tell me how u did this what is RTA EULA? tell me the steps to license my wlc. my 8510 wlc is in HA

From the GUI, go to the license and just add the number of AP's. This is an honor system, so you should have purchased the number of AP's that you plan to add. You will have to reboot the controller for the controller to take the license.

Hi Guys,

I have a simular issue where is shows the status as active, not-in-use.

What does this mean and how do I get this to be in use.

This is a Controller with HA-SKU license.
The licenses has been inherited from the Primary Controller.

Any license on HA-SKU controller is disregarded.

        Feature name: ap_count (adder)
        License type: Permanent
        License state: Active, Not-In-Use
        License Nodelocked: No
        RTU License Count: 50

Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Clifton.

Hi

I got a very similar problem. We are using a 3 node HA-design (N+1)

On the HA-device we got once a day the following trap-log message:

0 Wed Oct 9 2013 21:03:36  RF Secondary Controller Usage notification TrapType: 3 DaysCounter :131 System Name :wlcr165-nmsHA

The DaysCounter increases by one each day. The system seems to functioning properly so far.

We added the RTU-license, accepted EULA, deactivated evaluation-license, activated permanent license etc. but the message still appears - any help/suggestion ?
