can someone plz advise if we can have both WLC and Access points in the same VLAN? what are the pros a

High level i do not see the issue, they can stay on the same VLAN, also easy deployment.
But again how big was the deployment ?
I personally take this way, Most of the WLC installed in the Core Infratructure, so they will be different VLAN.
AP will be connected to access switch, so they use different VLAN (if you have large deployment)
But high level both feasible, depends on requirement you need to choose right direction.
