WLC Bacup AP SW Version Oddities- 3.0.51.0 (?)

Odd one here. Have 3702 APs that show exactly what you would expect for primary and backup images. In our case right now 8.2.141.0/8.2.121.0. Then we have a slew of them showing primary 8.2.141.0 and backup of 3.0.51.0. These WILL NOT take a new backup image.

Here's file system for both:

Hi Lee,

When I upgraded our controllers to 8.2.141.0, we had several APs who would not download the new firmware.  The APs would join the controller and "act" like everything was fine.  The only way to detect they were in this confused state was to look at the AP Uptime column.  APs in this condition would report an uptime of 0d, 0h, 0m, 0s.

The only way to fix this is to turn off the power of the AP(s), ensure the AP(s) detail(s) disappear from the controller (takes time, I don't know why) and then enable the PoE to the APs.

Hi Leo,

Nice to hear from you, brother. In this case, the primary image has updated and the AP is actually functional, serving clients and with long up times (see attached). It's just that the backup image will not update. You can try to force it in the GUI and it just comes back up with 3.0.51.0 after reboot every time.

-Lee
