WLC C9800 Cloud on Hyper-v

Hi Everyone,

I am having some difficulty getting my wireless clients to access the internet.

I have a AP1815 joined and setup to connect to a WLC C9800 running as a VM on Hyper-v.

I have configured a Vlan40 IP of 10.0.40.2 and the interface has a router set as 10.0.40.1 on the WLC and on both of my Core Cisco switches with both layer 2 and layer 3 set.

I created an Internal DHCP Pool 10.0.40.20-254

The Apple ios clients receive an ip from the dhcp pool, the router is included as 10.0.40.1, however there is no Internet access.

Win 10 wireless clients are the same, they recieve an ip from the WLC scope but no access to Internet.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this problem.

 - You may start by having a sanity-check of the controller-configuration , for that use (CLI) : show tech wireless , you can have the output processed by  https://cway.cisco.com/tools/WirelessAnalyzer/   . Also have some client debugging (called a radioactive trace) : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/catalyst-9800-series-wireless-controllers/213949-wireless-debugging-and-log-collection-on.html  , these can be analyzed with https://cway.cisco.com/tools/WirelessDebugAnalyzer/

Hi M,

Thanks for your input.

I have ran both and both have been run through the analysers.

Would you mind please having a look at the outputs and point me to any issue that is stopping the internet working?

    - I can't see any outputs.

Hi M,

Apologies forgot to attach them.

 - From WirelessAnalyzer try to correct the first controller error :

CAPWAP: Wireless Interface was detected as non-vlan type. For appliances, you should use a SVI (Vlan interface)

 For that : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/catalyst-9800-series-wireless-controllers/guide-c07-743627.html

Start reading  from Wireless management IP addressing especially and also the recommendations. After changes run WirelessAnalyzer again , to verify this fault is gone away.

Hi M,

CAPWAP: Wireless Interface was detected as non-vlan type. For appliances, you should use a SVI (Vlan interface)

The WMi on this Hyperv C9800 is set on Gigabit 1 which is the gui login ip address and the interface which is communicating with the AP.

There is an additional Gigabit 2 interface which I added to the hyperv VM, I tried to configure an SVI on a different vlan as the original via cli but it wont allow me, to mke it the WMi.

Is there way of doing this?

  - Ok , leave that as is. Review the ssid-wlan-vlan setup , in essence the vlan is the 'default gateway' to the internet which is usually terminated on the Intranet or  the perimeter. Check if hosts on that vlan can have internet access by a manual test , putting a host manually  (usually wired) on  that vlan  on the Intranet or the perimeter. For the rest review this document : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-4/b_Cisco_vWLC_on_Microsoft_Hyper-V_Deployment_Guide.html pay attention too https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-4/b_Cisco_vWLC_on_Microsoft_Hyper-V_Deployment_Guide.html#concept_46BEEC489BC04C679F01C23683C3E17B  and from https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/9800/17-1/release-notes/rn-17-1-9800.html#id_114714 check Table 2 -> make sure Hyper-V version is on that requirement and or at least not lower.

Hi M,

Thanks for those pointers, I will test on a client.

I'll read the rest of the docs too.

Appreciate your help.
