Hi,

As I understand the wlc  should be close  to the  AP's and clients , what if we keep it in the serverfarm

pros and cons please

Thanks

 - The wlc only provides network connections to access points, it can be perfectly placed in a server farm,

Hi @marce1000 @balaji.bandi

If Ap deployed in central switching mode ( ap local mode ) , the  service vlan (ssid ) traffic  has to flow  till the controller ,  In that  case do I need to assign a server farm vlan  to the ssid's ?

I am using 10.0.x.x for access vlans and 192.168.x.x  for server farm service vlans

In that case  then do I need to assign the same range from the server farm vlan 192.168.x.x  for the  service vlans (ssid )

Thanks

Hi,

current topology  is  collapsed core , access layer service vlans are using 10.x.x.x and server farm service vlans are 192.168.x.x

My question , What should be my wifi client ip addresses

Thanks

WLC can be any where as long as IP reachable.

as long as RTT meet the requirement.

Hi Bluesea,

After reviewing your last couple of posts, the advice which I can give you is that follow the below Cisco trainings.

I consider designing a wireless network is a big task and must be done by qualified individuals who has a proper understanding of the requirements. It is very difficult to answer this question as to place the WLC in the server farm without knowing what your requirements, what's the network topology, what the required traffic flows, what's the routing and security requirements, policies or regulations that you need to adhere to etc. Also it must be noted best practice for one network is not always a best practice for all networks.

Above trainings I have mentioned should give you a better understanding on how Cisco wireless works as whole and also that knowledge will help you to better design your network. It also prepare you for the CCNP wireless exams as well.

Below are some other links which can help you enhance your wireless and design knowledge;

Campus LAN and Wireless LAN Solution Design Guide - Cisco

FlexConnect Wireless Branch Controller Deployment Guide - Cisco

Wireless LAN Design Guide for High Density Client Environments in Higher Education (cisco.com)

You can also refer to the DCLOUD if you want to try out certain things before you deploy it in your network.

Hi @Arshad Safrulla

Thanks for the advise . If I rephrase the question above ,In most of the deployment usually  placement of the wlc is in core or in distribution . Any reason for that

As @Arshad Safrulla said this really depends on your overall network design and requirements.
You've been asking numerous questions essentially asking us to design your network for you - which we really can't do.
Like Arshad said you should get the right training if you want to do it yourself or pay an expert to do it for you.
But asking dozens of questions here in an attempt to elicit a network design really isn't the right way to do it.

More generally there's no reason why you can't locate WLCs in data centres as long as you meet the design specs for round trip time as @balaji.bandi  says.  Most of ours are done that way because as a service provider we get economy of scale and resilience hosting multiple customers on core controllers. We have HA-SSO pairs with N+1 resilience to other data centre so that we can provide 99.999% availability.  There are some features which really only work well with a local WLC - I'm specifically thinking of Chromecast as an example and there are a few features which are not supported on flexconnect APs so that might also require local WLC so that you can switch centrally (with AP in local mode) on the local WLC.
