WLC2504 (8.0.133.0) and 2702i AP

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the above issue. I just setup a WLC2504 with couple of 2702i access points. The license for the WLC2504 hasn't arrived yet so I am running on evaluation license for now. My access points are on the same VLAN as the WLC but each WLAN (SSID) I configured on a separate VLAN.

Anyway, the point is that, when I configure a WLAN and enabled Radio Policy = All. I used INSSIDER to determine whether the 5Ghz network is working. I do not see the 5Ghz network. I only see on the 2.4Ghz network.

I checked under:

  1. Wireless > 802.11/a/n/ac > Network : Confirmed that 802.11a Network Status is enabled.
  2. Wireless > All APs > under any APs > Interfaces : RadioSlot#1 is Enabled and Oper Status Up.
  3. Wireless > All APs > under any APs > Advanced : PoE Status says 'Full Power' as my switch support PoE+ at 16.8W
  4. Wireless > Country : SG is selected (that is where I am)
  5. WLAN > (SSID name) > Advanced > Client Band Select is checked.

Some of the troubleshooting steps I did was:

  1. Initially I was running on 8.0.121.0. I upgraded to 8.0.133.0. Didn't help.
  2. I went to Wireless > 802.11/b/g/n > Network : And unchecked 802.11b/g Network status. Still cannot 'see' the 5Ghz network.
  3. WLAN > (SSID name) > General : Change Radio Policy to only 802.11a or 802.11a/g. Not working.

What could I have missed out?

Looks fine to me.  Is the AP configured with RF Profile?

inSSIDer uses the wireless client's on-board wireless NIC card.  The only thing I can think of is the wireless client only has 802.11b-capable wireless NIC.

Exactly, what is the brand and model number of the wireless NIC?

Hi Leo Laohoo, I am using a X230 with a built-in Intel 6205. I am very sure it supports 802.11a as I am using 5Ghz in my home wireless. Other sites I am been to, I am able to see SSIDs on the 5Ghz wireless range.

Please post the complete output to the command "sh sysinfo" & "sh wlan <ID>".

Looks fine to me.  Is the AP configured with RF Profile?

Hi Leo LaoHoo,

The 'default-group' is present. After reading from this link, there isn't any RF Profile.

So, I created 2 RF Profiles (one for 802.11a and 802.11bg) under Wireless > RF Profiles.

And under WLANs > Advanced > AP Group, I created a new AP Group with the 2 new RF Profiles and assigned all the APs onto it.

I will check tomorrow if the APs are broadcasting 5Ghz channel.

Will update here...

Hi Leo LaoHoo,

I found out what the issue is and I have resolved it. Apparently the new APs I got were the UX regions and needs to be primed for Singapore to be used. So only 2.4Ghz channel is available.

I managed to prime all my access points and my 5Ghz channel is now broadcasting.

Thanks for your help.
