Hi James,

please use the XR release 5.3.4 instead. The quality of 5.3.4 is superior to release 5.3.3. Just download the .tar from CCO and proceed with the install. You can find here the upgrade instructions from older releases to 5.3.4:

http://www.cisco.com/web/Cisco_IOS_XR_Software/index.html

Hope this helps,

/Aleksandar

I have done million IOS upgrade for branch router but not with ASR 9000

I don't have choice in which code we use just wanted to know the anything off from ASR from IOS

Hi James,

the upgrade procedure is different. What features are you running on the ASR9K?

MPLS, MCAST?

Also please let us know what packages are you running now.
"admin show install active summary"

asr9k-mpls-px-5.3.3

This is the output of the command "admin show install active summary"?

Not possible that you have only one package.

Active Packages:
asr9k-mpls-px-5.3.3
asr9k-mini-px-5.3.3
asr9k-mgbl-px-5.3.3
asr9k-fpd-px-5.3.3
asr9k-k9sec-px-5.3.

asr9k-mini-px-5.3.3
asr9k-mgbl-px-5.3.3

asr9k-k9sec-px-5.3.3

are those the same package?

These are different packages.

Are you aware of Cisco Software Manager (CSM) Server? It is a tool that automates the download steps. It will also check other installation requirements and any pre-requisites, then download the required pre-requisites for you.

The tool can be downloaded from below:

https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282414851&softwareid=284777134&release=3.3

Please email cs-software-manager@cisco.com for the tool related support and questions.

Ok great.

Download the 5.3.4.tar file and extract the same packages that you have for version 5.3.3.

Install it via FTP (I am using xlight FTP because filezilla stopped working for me).

admin

install add ftp://10.100.13.133/asr9k-mini-px.pie-5.3.4 ftp://10.100.13.133/asr9k-mpls-px.pie-5.3.4 ftp://10.100.13.133/asr9k-mgbl-px.pie-5.3.4 ftp://10.100.13.133/asr9k-fpd-px.pie-5.3.4  ftp://10.100.13.133/asr9k-k9sec-px.pie-5.3.4

After install process has been completed you can check the packages with

admin show install inactive summary

If all packages are there you can start with the upgrade procedure.

install activate disk0:asr9k-mini-px.pie-5.3.4 etc etc for all other 5.3.4 packages and "test" at the end of the command. With the test command you can check if everything is ok. You can then leave out "test" at the end.

After reload check what packages are running and if everything is ok type admin install commit.

FPD upgrade is probably not necessary. It was not on our ASR9006 with MOD80 LC.

i can't download it from random location and i can only upgrade to 5.3.3 sp4

I want to make sure i have the correct statement.

Inactive Packages

asr9k-px-5.3.3.sp4-1.0.0

i want to check if i can upgrade from none sp to sp4

any command and backup commands i need

i was already give it but i want to see if it's correct.

I can not download or install any kind of files...

Of course you can.

install activate disk0:asr9k-px-5.3.3.sp4-1.0.0 test and see what happens.

If everything is ok you can leave out "test". Chassis will be reloaded.

if the test fails then do the manual install by package?

i have the manual install command but from what i can tell it doesn't have all of them. I want to be sure everything goes smooth.

If the test fails you will know why. Copy/paste the output if the test fails.

If it's successful then you can leave out "test"
