ASR 9010/9006 upgrade from dual RSP440 to SINGLE RSP880

Hi,

thinking about upgrade from RSP440 to RSP880. Is it allowed, cisco supported hw configuration to use ASR 9010/9006 with SINGLE RSP880, relying to primary/secondary router redundancy only instead of additional inbox RSP redundancy?

Any experience with it?

Thanks for your ideas and help, Jaroslav.

Each RSP card carries enough switching capacity to meet the router throughput specifications. It is not recommended to use only 1 RSP and rely on primary/secondary router redundancy. I would recommend having 2 RSP in each ASR. That being said, the ability to have 2 RSPs is for redundancy, so I would assume that using an ASR9006/9010 with a single RSP would be supported.

Hello @jljl ,

I can confirm that the ASR will continue working with one RSP.

I've used to do some upgrade of RSP 440 to 880 without isolation of the ASR, and at some point of the upgrade, the router had only one RSP, he continued to work smootly.

Upgrade step [not detailed]:

- Make sure RSP1 is active

- Replace RSP0

- RSP0 will load the config and version from RSP1

- Switchover to RSP0 to become active

- Replace RSP1.

Hope it answers your query.

Kind Regards,

Antoine
