Hello Dear ASR9K Masters,

I would like to know how the ASR9001 NV Edge System (fabric) QoS is set up. The public documentation is very poor regarding this topic ..

EoBC Links .. Inter Rack Links ..

Thanks !

David

Hi David,

When an interface is configured as an IRL link, we install 5 absolute priority queues on the port in both the ingress and egress directions.

To emulate the fabric priority behaviour on the inter-rack links (IRLs), we will use the fabric cos value to determine which priority to use on the IRL, basically mapping the cos 3 levels (P1, P2, Normal) to the 3 level priority in the output Queue towards IRL port (High, Medium,Low)

The priorities are:

1.     All protocol punt / inject packets like protocol Hellos etc..

2.     Multicast traffic

3.     Fabric priority  0 traffic (P1 High)

4.     Fabric priority  1 traffic (P2 Medium)

5.     Fabric priority  2 traffic (Normal Low)

Hello Alexei

I can´t see information regarding this topic on the Documentation Guides .. Can you point me to configuration examples please ?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

These QoS and queues are automatically created as soon as you configure an interface as an Inter-Rack Link. We don’t need to configure anything for this.

Thanks Alexei.

Still we need to map the traffic on the ingress linecard, right ?

Correct, you can map the traffic to priority 1 or 2 as you'd do to priorities traffic going through the chassis in a single rack installation.
