[asr9k] interface up, but (l2transport) subinterface down

hi, all:

i was wondering if you could help out. I'm having a problem where i have an interface in up/up state, but when i configure an l2transport subinterface it doesn't come up/up. I was under the impression that as long as the parent interface is in up/up state, the subinterface will assume the same state.

stuff like cdp works over the 10G link:

Seems weird to me, since we haven't had this happen before at all. Might be something very simple, but I cannot find it. On the other side I have a 3600 configured like this:

interface TenGigabitEthernet0/1

switchport trunk allowed vlan 2

switchport mode trunk

speed nonegotiate

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

c.

Hi,

Sub-int dot1q, dot1ad, qinq protocol are down on WX with 20x1GE EP

Hi Ehsan

thanks for the bug info

As per the bug workaourd we reset the process l2vpn_mgr and vlan_ma but situation is still there, sub-interface are in UP Down state.

hi Prakash,

is there a TAC SR opened for this? It would be the best to continue the troubleshooting through a TAC SR.

regards,

Aleksandar

If I read it correctly, the issue is observed in XR 510 is that correct? Based on the symptom and details that I see the DDTS referenced CSCuj28971 is very much the suspect here.

It is somewhat of an undesirable scenario to run 510. It might be best to verify this with 513. If the issue persists there (unlikely) then we can investigate and smu it on the EMR. The 510 is end of maintenance already.

I think the best advice to give here is to go with 513.

xander

We are palnning for the newer version but its pending due to some test case left .. and that will take time.

Will the reload of the router resolve the issue ?

hi Prakash,

Router reload will clear the 'node down' condition described in CSCuj28971. If you know what was the trigger, repeating that trigger should be avoided until the router is upgraded. Are you evaluating 5.1.3 or 5.3.3 for the upgrade?

regards,

Aleksandar

yeah I wanted to add that if you are considering a reload, it might be worth combining that with running 513/SP<latest> that way you solved the problem first as aleks described and second you have mitigation in place with the fix discussed.

but I understand that some sw changes require some extra validation/verification first also.

anyways, reload will help mitigate the situation today.

xander

Thanks Thujus

will update it when we complete the activity

I go for the reload and let u know the observations

Do you have the configuration and outputs from the other side of the link?

It happens to me once, with 4.0.3, and was because in the other side of the link i dont have any sub-interface with the same dot1q encapsultation.

I posted the config on the other side of the link. It's a dot1q trunk that allows the same vlan as the subinterface on the asr9k. Interface is up on the other side, of course, since CDP is working.
