CSM 4.2.6 Failing to add packages to ASR 9001 (6.3.3 to 6.4.2 upgrade)

The installation job stalls out in the disk space check, then it comes back with the following in the warnings/error box::

WARNING: Failed to verify pie file '/ftp://csmuser:*********@1.2.3.4/asr9k-fpd-px.pie-6.4.2' because the file could not be found.
WARNING: Failed to verify pie file '/ftp://csmuser:*********@1.2.3.4/asr9k-services-px.pie-6.4.2' because the file could not be found.
WARNING: Can't analise harddisk: content
lab-rtr1: Command timeout: 'exit'

In the session log, it shows these errors:

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:lab-brtr1#admin show install pie-info ftp://csmuser:***@1.2.3.4/asr9k-mini-px.pie-6.4.2

Failed to execute 'show install pie-info' (details: instcmd_show_install_pie failed: 'sysdb' detected the 'warning' condition 'A SysDB client tried to access a nonexistent item or list an empty directory')

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:lab-brtr1#admin show install pie-info ftp://csmuser:***@1.2.3.4/asr9k-mini-px.pie-6.4.2

Failed to execute 'show install pie-info' (details: instcmd_show_install_pie failed: 'sysdb' detected the 'warning' condition 'A SysDB client tried to access a nonexistent item or list an empty directory')

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:lab-brtr1#admin show install pie-info ftp://csmuser:***@1.2.3.4/asr9k-mini-px.pie-6.4.2
...

there's more normal looking output and then:

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:lab-rtr1#run

# cd /harddisk:

# du -p . | sort -r | grep -Eiv "(c12k|hfr|asr9k|iosxr|syslog|instdb|LOST\.DIR|cepki|cfgmgr|config)"

after that it hangs and the job dies off.

anyone have any idea why it's hanging and failing?  The two files above in the warnings box are not hanging because of an FTP problem, but because of the same error that is listed on the mini-px.pie above. it's the exact same error:

Failed to execute 'show install pie-info' (details: instcmd_show_install_pie failed: 'sysdb' detected the 'warning' condition 'A SysDB client tried to access a nonexistent item or list an empty directory')

We're trying to upgrade from 6.3.3 to 6.4.2, but CSM has been fighting us the whole time.

Can you try changing ftp to passive mode?

Is it currently set to active?

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your reply. I do not see any settings anywhere that indicate changing the transfer mode of FTP to either passive or not within the CSM application. Also, the FTP server has direct access to the router in question with no firewalls in the middle, so there isn't anything funky (like NAT) or anything going on there.

Thanks!

Can you check your FTP server config? Its not a setting on CSM or the router causing this, but on the FTP server.

We have seen this once before and toggling between active and passive mode in FTP fixed it.
