ISSU is supported only on the 64-bit (aka eXR) flavour of IOS XR. To see which topologies are supported, check the "Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Routers" documents for 6.2.x, 6.3.x and 6.4.x. Release 6.2.3 is the first supported "from" release. Refer to "In Service Software Upgrade for Cisco IOS XR 64 Bit" chapter of "System Management Configuration Guide for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Routers" for your release of choice.

Hello ,

ISSU is only supported in 64BIT IOS-XR but on RSP-880.

All SMUs built on 64BIT 632 onwards are bulid with ISSU/reload flag.

. ISSU supports upgrading an image from a lower to a higher version. ISSU supports zero topology loss (ZTL) and causes only a minimal packet loss of less than six seconds.

Please have a look at https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/asr9000/software/asr9k-r6-4/system-management/configuration/guide/b-system-management-cg-asr9000-64x/b-system-management-cg-asr9000-64x_chapter_010111.html

In order for full ISSU both V1 image ( The existing one ) and V2 image ( The one to upgrade )should be ISSU capable.
