How to connect C9364C-GX to the remote IPN with only 10G ports

Hi,

We have already a Multipod with 2 Pods which are working fine. We are building a new site and would like to connect 2 new Spines to the existing IPN switches and configure the 3rd Pod.

The problem is :

  • all 40G ports of IPN switches are already used so only 10G ports are left
  • AND the 2 new Spine N9K-C9364C-GX do not have any 10G port

I read the datasheet https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/nexus-9000-series-switches/nexus-9300-gx-series-switches-ds.html and understand that breakout is supported, however I have not found any 40/100G QSFP which is breakout-able AND supports the long distance (30 km so I would need a ER).

Could you please advise? Many thanks.

You'll need QSA adapters for the 9364C-GX side.  This will turn a QSFP port into an SFP compatible interface.
Then you can use your standard SFP-10G-ER  or SFP-10G-ER-S optics.
The PID for the QSA is CVR-QSFP-SFP10G.
This info is availabe in the optics matrix tools: https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?dr=10&npid=3041
