Refurbished AIR-CAP3702I-B-K9

ColeB20570

We recently purchased 10 refurbished Cisco AIR-CAP3702I-B-K9 AP's.

When connected to our network, they don't automatically connect to the WLC. I attempted to manually input the controller IP information, but I'm not seeing the interface I'd expect to see on an AP. The APs do pull a DHCP address, but they all get the same IP. Even when I attempt to factory reset the APs, the command are not available or don't seem to make a difference.

It looks like some version of switch OS was installed on the APs. I've attached what I'm seeing.

Has anyone seen this before? Have a work around?

Our WLC is quite old. We have a 5500 running 8.3.133.0. We have over a hundred other CAP3702s running just fine.

I am not able to factory reset. I've attempted to do that, but the commands are not the same. Whatever version of code installed on these is not what I'm used to seeing. It doesn't even show the command prompt correctly. When you factory reset, it should go to an ap: prompt. I'm seeing an ap> prompt. I can then go into "enable" mode and get an ap# prompt.

I was going to load a new version of firmware via TFTP, but it will not take any of the commands to do so.

connect the console to AP and post complete boot logs and see what is wrong, also worth noting as @Leo Laohoo suggested field notices

Wait a second ... Look at the prompt.  It is an "ap>" and not "AP<MAC ADDRESS>".

This AP is loaded with Autonomous IOS.

  1. CAPWAP RCV can be found HERE and download the filename "ap3g2-rcvk9w8-tar.153-3.JK8b.tar".
  2. Put the file into a TFTP server.
  3. Use the following command to extract the firmware into the AP:  archive download-sw /no-reload tftp://<TFTP IP ADDRESS>/ap3g2-rcvk9w8-tar.153-3.JK8b.tar
  4. wr erase default
  5. Reboot the AP

We have definitely run into FN-63942. TAC suggested we change the date on the WLC to something like 2020. Being a medical facility, we are worried what other issue this might cause with medical devices on the wireless network. We are just holding out and hoping the new controllers and funding for the APs arrive this year.

When I've run into those issues previously, you can see it happen via console during boot up. I'm not seeing it as of now.

TAC and I are wrong.  Base on the serial number of the AP, this AP is 4 years old.  FN-63942 does not apply to this AP.

This is something else.

ap3g2-k9w7-xx.153-3.JPL looks to be an autonomous software and also it says "cisco AIR-SAP3702I-B-K9". If there's no join attempts to the wlc in the console you need tot change the software
