At times, customer would like to capture OS logs from the CVP VXML and CVP OAM ( Operations Console ) servers using " Remote Registry Service " at a Windows Server OS level. Customers are concerned about whether its recommended & supported practice by Cisco ?
What is " Remote Registry " Service ?
This service enables " remote users " to modify registry settings on this computer. If this service is stopped, the registry can be modified only by users logged in locally on this computer. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.
Note : Running this service could be of potential threat to any Windows systems because this service enables administrators or power users or hackers to remotely manipulate system registry.
Having said above, the customer needs to make a decision regarding the security of these servers. CVP would not be impacted as long as the service does not take up too much CPU and memory.
There is no clear-cut indication about whether this method will or will not be supported by TAC/BU, therefore it should be considered on case-to-case basis.
