N2K-C2248T vs N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE provisioning

Hi Gents

i need to provision FEXen on my N5K-C5596UP vPC-pair & i'm a little bit confused what do i have to put as "provision model" for N2K-C2248TP-1GE? how can i recognize exact model of my FEX?

tnx in advance

UPD:

finding resolution in blind manner:
SW1(config-slot)# provision model N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE
ERROR: The card type does not match the card in slot
SW1(config-slot)# provision model N2K-C2248T

Looks like my FEXen r not TP-E, right?

OK, just checked my N5k estate.

For N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE, I've done "provision model N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE".

For the older N2K-C2248TP-1GE I have "provision model N2K-C2248T"

Hi @andy!doesnt!like!uucp

1. "what do i have to put as "provision model" for N2K-C2248TP-1GE"

SD: The pre-provisioning command is not mandatory. What it does, it allows the FEX to be preconfigured before the FEX is actually discovered by the parent switch. Since each FEX has different number of interfaces (HIFs), you need to specify the FEX model, when you preprovision it.

2.  "how can i recognize exact model of my FEX? "

SD: Once it is discovered and configured with a FEX ID, you can use "show fex" or "show fex details". If you do not have it discovered, then you need to look at the equipment where it is showing the hw model N2K-C2XXX

Stay safe,

Sergiu

Hi Sergiu

actually with above update i've resolved my Q. Looks like N2K-C2248TP-1GE corresponds exactly to N2K-C2248T provision model. do u know how does FEX Model (exact P#) look like for N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE provision model?

Firstly, work out if your FEX will be attached Straight-Through or Cross-Connected and you should also know if you're using FET transceivers or 10Gbase-SR.

This is what I normally do, but I think the provision model for can just be set to: N2K-C2248T.

conf ter

slot 10X
 provision model <N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE or Similar>
exit

interface Eth10X/1/1 - 48
 switchport access vlan <your-suspended-vlan>
 no snmp trap link-status
 spanning-tree port type edge
exit

end

conf ter
interface Eth1/XX - XX
 description <UpstreamSwitchHostname>-FEX10X
! Allows use of FET-10G transceivers:
 switchport mode fex-fabric
 fex associate 10X
 channel-group 10X
 no switchport access vlan <XXX>
 shut
exit

interface po10X
 description <UpstreamSwitch>-FEX10X NIF1/2
 switchport mode fex-fabric
 fex associate 10X
 no shut
exit
fex 10X
 pinning max-links 1
 description "<UpstreamSwitch>-10X RackXXX"
exit

Then a few useful commands to check after attachment:

show fex
show version fex 10X
show fex 10X detail show provision failed-config 10X show interface fex-fabric show environment fex 10X

OK, just checked my N5k estate.

For N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE, I've done "provision model N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE".

For the older N2K-C2248TP-1GE I have "provision model N2K-C2248T"

thanks to All

what i didnt get clear though what is the difference between preprovisioning slot with N2K-C2248T & N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE?

in my case i already have FEXen attached & CLI doesnt allow me to select wrong FEX provision model, but if i needed preprovisioning would improper selection of model (let's say N2K-C2248T whilst my FEXex r N2K-C2248TP-E-1GE) lead to FEXen fail to go online or other catastrophic errors?

SW1(config)# slot 100
SW1(config-slot)# provision model ?
