Did you know that the world's first computer programmer was a woman? That's right, Ada Lovelace, who was born in 1815, became the first programmer on Babbage's Analytical Engine, which was a mechanical computer. As our friends at the Computer History Museum point out, she was not only a programmer but also a visionary about what computers might someday do.
Some other amazing women in technology include Grace Hopper, who built the first compiler and co-invented COBOL. Also, Hedy Lemarr, who was well-known for her acting, was also an inventor who came up with the communications systems that were the basis for Wifi and Bluetooth!
