Dear Cisco Community,

I am having an interview for the following position Sr Associate Network Technology Support at AT&T.

What tips would you provide me to make a good impression? I don't want to appear ignorant, but my knowledge of VoiP is virtually non-existent. What questions would you ask if you were the interviewer?

I have been digging into good definition for VoiP, SIP, RTP, and differences between protocols.

Best Regards,

Chris

Forgive me for sounding like a jerk, but the position is specifically asking for someone who has VoIP experience so you may not be a good fit. But, hey, if you have all of the other pieces like route/switch, Python, Linux and the other things mentioned it doesn't hurt to apply and interview.

I don't know when your interview is, but if you have some time I'd suggest checking out some of the videos in the Cisco Learning Network on Collaboration.

Here is a link. Go to "Lesson 5 Questions and Answers" and look at the first video in each of the categories such as SIP, Voice Gateways, Voice Protocols Overview (Parts 1 and 2), and anything else that looks interesting to you.

I'd be asking about the environment in which you'd be working. As I read the job posting, you'll want to know SIP, PRIs, Channelized E1 (TDM), something about the virtual machine environment, and how a phone call is actually set up (what is the step by step process).

Good luck to you!

Maren

Thank you for your prompt response. No offense taken.

The interview is already scheduled, we are past the first step. Sometimes, potential employers may be inclined to hire less qualified candidates. Now, I suppose they are at least a bit interested in my profile, but I expect the interview to be extremely challenging. I don't want to find myself in a very embarrassing situation. I am going to review the link, so I can keep building foundations in that VoiP area.
