UM/Single Inbox with Exchange 2010

While configuring Single Inbox in the Cisco Unity Connection it requires to enable below option in the Class of  Service.

Allow Users to Access Voicemail Using an IMAP Client and/or Single Inbox check box.

By selecting the check box of above option it gives options only to IMAP.

My question is that for Single Inbox/UM Is this option is mandatory? if yes then should we have to enable the IMAP service on Exchange 2010 ?

Is there any other way to enable Single Inbox/UM with Exchange 2010 without enabling the above mentioned option?

Regards

Ibrahim,

You do not need IMAP for single inbox as that uses EWS service on Exchange 2010, you need IMAP for other UM feature such as TTS per the following:

Connection uses the IMAP protocol to access emails in Exchange so that the messages can be played by using text to speech. By default, Exchange is not configured to allow IMAP access to messages. You must enable IMAP access on each Exchange server that contains emails that you want licensed Connection users to be able to access.

Hi  ibrahimsiddiqui ,

If you read the help file for this page, it state that the options are applicable only to IMAP. For Single Inbox you do not need to enable IMAP on Exchange server.

Allow Users to   Access Voice Mail Using an IMAP Client and/or Single Inbox

Check   this check box to give users who are assigned to this class of service a   license to access voice messages by using an IMAP client and/or by using the   single inbox feature. When this check box is checked, also select one of the   following options, if applicable (note that these options are applicable only to IMAP):

  • Allow IMAP Users to Access        Message Bodies—Users have access to the entire voicemail.
  • Allow IMAP Users to Access        Message Bodies Except on Private Messages—Users have access to the        entire voicemail, unless the message is marked private, in which case        they have access only to the message header.
  • Allow IMAP Users to Access        Message Headers Only—Users have access only to message headers.

Regardless   of the choice you make here, users still have full access to messages by   using the Cisco Unity Connection phone conversation and, if applicable,   the Connection Web Inbox.

Note      Encrypted message bodies can never be accessed from an IMAP client or by   using the single inbox feature.

Default   setting: Check box not checked.

Thanks,

Anand
