You have to upgrade first to 9.1(2) and after that you can upgrade to 9.1(7)23.

We got notice that we needed to upload this code (asa917-23-smp-k8.bin) because of vulnerabilities in the current code

Which image are you trying to load? And have you tried to load a different image?

The unit is already running 9.1.
Here is why we are trying to load this IOS.
We got notice from Cisco that we needed to upload to this code (asa917-23-smp-k8.bin) because of vulnerabilities in the current code 9.1.1. They say this fixes the vulnerabilities. The reboot takes place as it gets close to completing the upload.
I suppose we could try to copy a different IOS just see if it copies.

As already mentioned, upgrade first to 9.1(2) before going further.

Sorry for delay in providing closure on this discussion but at this point this ASA cannot even be reloaded. The reload command does not work.
We are trying arrange for someone at this site to power down and up.

Like as mr. Karsten said, you need to upgrade to 9.1(2) then go further, this would help.
if not, kindly let me know at what stage the ASA reboot exactly..

I was able to upload 9.1.2.
I cannot do reload until Monday 2/12 for business reasons.
I'll let you know how it goes.
thanks
