Hello @dhikra-marghli8

A IPS is a critical component of network security that helps protect systems and networks from various threats. It can cover a range of security functions, including antivirus, web filtering, email filtering, and application control.

Antivirus: IPS engine can include signature-based detection to identify known malware and viruses by comparing network traffic patterns against a database of known signatures. It may also employ heuristic analysis and behavior-based detection to identify suspicious activities that could indicate the presence of new or unknown malware.

Web Filtering: The IPS engine can analyze web traffic and enforce policies to block or allow access to specific websites based on predefined criteria. It may use URL categorization, content analysis, and reputation-based filtering to identify and control access to malicious or inappropriate websites.

Email Filtering: IPS engines can inspect email traffic for malicious attachments, links, or patterns. They may use signature-based detection for known email threats, as well as behavioral analysis to identify suspicious email behavior.

Application Control: IPS engines can monitor and control the usage of applications on a network. Application control involves defining policies to allow or block specific applications or categories of applications based on the organization's security and usage policies.

The IPS engine is the core intelligence responsible for detecting and preventing intrusions, while the IPS sensor is the device or software component that implements the IPS engine to actively monitor and secure network traffic.
