Core issue
Processor pool memory corruption occurs on devices that run Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(18)SXF.
Cisco bug ID CSCsc84454 identifies this issue. The conditions that trigger this bug are not currently known.
In some scenarios, the memory that is marked as though it belongs to process Dead is allocated under the control of a process that no longer runs. It is normal to have a significant chunk of memory in such a state. For instance, if persistent system data structures are created due to the actions of some process, the memory is marked as though it belongs to that process, but the process does not ever return the memory. Some other process can potentially return it later.
Resolution
In order to resolve this problem, upgrade to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(18)SXF03 or later, which can be downloaded from the Cisco Downloads.
Alternatively, as a workaround, disable the HTTP server with the no ip http server global configuration command.
In case of a memory allocation issue, it is normal to have a significant chunk of memory in such a state. In order to resolve this issue, reload the MSFC, which makes the memory free.
