Switch displays "switch:" after a configuration change

Core issue

A switch is showing only the switch: prompt would indicate that the boot path is not set to look for the correct IOS image, or there is no IOS image on the switch.

Resolution

Perform the following steps:

• Determine if there is an IOS image on the switch.
• If there is an IOS image, set the boot path to look at that IOS image.

  Follow these steps for setting the boot path to look at the IOS image:

  • At the switch: prompt, successively enter each of the following commands:
    
  flash_init
  load_helper
  dir flash:
  !--- Look for a file that starts with
  !--- c3500XL-c3h2s-mz-120.???????, also known as the image name.
  set BOOT flash:image name
  !--- Enter.
  boot
  

These steps should get the switch up and running if a valid IOS image exists on the switch.
